The Notification Rules Engine
Monitors detect problems. The rules engine decides who needs to know, in what format, how often, and what happens when it resolves.
Every notification passes through the rules engine before dispatch. Each rule defines filters (database, schema, object, environment, severity, tags, message type), destinations (fan-out to multiple channels), and suppression (per-rule, per-object cooldowns).
- Wildcard filters — *PROD*, MY_DB*, *_PROD (case-insensitive)
- Multi-destination fan-out — same event to PagerDuty + Slack + CloudWatch
- Per-rule, per-object suppression — prevents alert storms
- Trigger + Resolve lifecycle — PagerDuty auto-resolves on recovery
- Circuit breakers — CLOSED/OPEN/HALF_OPEN with exponential backoff
